Description From Owner:
  • The Aboriginal name was Chebec, 'the narrows. The first English name was The Wedge or Tusket Wedge, which changed to Wedge Port and eventually, Wedgeport.
  • There was an Acadian settlement here in 1767. Wedgeport was the home of the International Tuna Cup Matches from 1936 until the 1960s, when the tuna moved elsewhere.

  • Wedgeport Sport Tuna Fishing Museum

    at 57 Tuna Wharf Rd. in Wedgeport is a museum and interpretive centre with artifacts from the 1930s to '70s from tuna fishing tournaments.

    There is all manner of fishing equipment, a mock tuna fishing boat with tuna fighting chair and even a mounted 32-pound lobster. The museum has a café and gift shop.
