Nova Scotia Tourism Region : South Shore
Description From Owner:
- Shag was an early French word for 'cormorant.' Samuel de Champlain's map of 1614 shows a trading post near Cape Sable at the mouth of Shag Harbour Brook called Vieux Logis, old house.
- When lots were laid out in 1785 the point on the W of Shag Harbour Brook was referred to as the place where the old house stood. The new settlement was founded by Joshua Nickerson, Anson Kendrick and David and Zarah Smith.
