Nova Scotia Tourism Region : Yarmouth and Acadian Shores
- There are about 15 communities in this area that include the word Pubnico in their name.
- East Pubnico on the E side of Pubnico Harbour is comprised, from S to N, of: Lower East Pubnico; Centre East Pubnico; Middle East Pubnico; East Pubnico and Pubnico Head.
- West Pubnico on the W side of the harbour is comprised, from S to N, of: Lower West Pubnico; Middle West Pubnico, West Pubnico and Upper West Pubnico.
- The name Pubnico evolved from many variations of the Aboriginal Pogomcook, 'land from which the trees have been removed to fit it for cultivation.'
- Originally the name Cap de Sable, 'sand cape' included this area.
- This is one of the oldest settlements in the province and was included in the barony of Pobomcoup, granted to Philippe Mius d'Entremont (c.1601-1700) in 1651 by Charles de Saint-Étienne de La Tour (1593–1666).
- The Pubnicos escaped the first wave of Expulsion in 1755 but their turn came in 1758-9. A few people escaped deportation and because these lands were never occupied by others, many returned in the 1760s.
- The barony remained in the d'Entremont family until the Expulsion. Simon d'Entremont from West Pubnico was elected MLA for Argyle in 1836, one of the first two Acadians to achieve this honour.
- Another Acadian, Frédérique Robicheau (1786-1863), was also elected in Annapolis but was ill and missed the swearingin ceremony in 1837, making d'Entremont the first Acadian legislator.
