657 OLD WINDSOR HWY |
Nova Scotia Tourism Region : Bay of Fundy & Annapolis Valley
Description From Owner:
- The place was named to honour Richard John Uniacke (1753-1830), whose long political career began with his election in 1783 to the Nova Scotia Assembly.
- In 1793 he was named attorney general, a title he held until his death. In 1819 Uniacke was granted lands that included the present Mount Uniacke and Mount Uniacke Gold Mines, by which time he had bought up most of the surrounding lands.
- Between 1813-15 he built a country mansion here that is now part of the Nova Scotia Museum complex. His name also lives on at Mount Uniacke Gold Mines, Lake, River, (all in Hants County), Uniacke Point in Cape Breton County and Uniacke Hill in NB.
