745 SACKVILLE DR |
Nova Scotia Tourism Region : Halifax Metro
Description From Owner:
- This place and the nearby communities of Middle Sackville and Upper Sackville are locally called 'The Sackvilles' and are chiefly bedroom communities for folks who work in Halifax-Dartmouth.
- The name derives from Fort Sackville (now Bedford) which from 1749 to 1856 guarded the Windsor Road from Halifax to the Annapolis Valley.
- The fort was named for George Sackville Germain, 1st Viscount Sackville (1716-85) who was secretary of state for the colonies in the British cabinet from 1755-82. In 1996 this area became part of the Halifax Reg. Mun.
