  • Philip Richardson had been living on the W side of the Annapolis River at nearby Richardson's Landing when he received his land grant in 1765.
  • The place is named for Charles Lawrence (1709-60), Governor from 1754-60, whose term coincided with the expulsion of the Acadians (1755), establishment of representative government (1758) and the coming of New England Planters in the 1760s.
