Description From Owner:
- First called Moglakachk, 'the place of geese.' Named during the French colonial period for the slate (ardoise) cliffs.
- In the early 1700s it was a supply depot for the construction of Fortress Louisbourg, providing slate for the roof, firewood and some agricultural products.
- The first settler is said to have been François Coste, who fled Louisbourg when it was attacked in 1745. The census of 1752 showed 252 residents.
