Description From Owner:
- Named to honour Vice-Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood (1750-1810), later Baron Collingwood.
- Upon the death of Admiral Horatio Nelson at the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar, he took over command. The battle was the most famous naval engagement of the Napoleonic Wars and dashed Napoleon's hopes for invading England.
- The first of 21 land grants was made in 1785, but Thomas D. Taylor and Henry Atkinson were the only ones to stay on the land. By 1956 the population had reached 343.
