Description From Owner:
- The place is named from a line in a poem. The Deserted Village was written by Anglo-Irish poet Oliver Goldsmith (1728-74).
- The line is: 'Sweet Auburn! Loveliest village of the plain.' Walter Wilkins took up his land grant of 1,000 acres here in 1770.
- St. Mary's Anglican Church, built in 1790, is a wooden version of a design created by Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723) and was the second consecrated Anglican Church in British North America.
