Description From Owner:
- Leonard Yammer and 30 others received a 5,450-acre land grant here in 1786 and in 1812, 504 Black refugees from the War of 1812 settled.
- The place was named for Sir Andrew Snape Hammond (1738–1828), Lt.Gov. of Nova Scotia 1780–82. In 1828 the school area was known as Negro District, Hammond Plains.
