- Abraham, Jean and Pierre Bourg, who were listed in the 1714 census as being residents of Cobequid, are believed to have begun settlement here, which by 1756 was known as Vil La Bourg.
- In 1755 French villages along the side of the bay were destroyed by British troops under the command of Abijah Willard, but the inhabitants had already fled to escape deportation.
- In 1761 several ship loads of Scots-Irish people came to settle the new Township of Truro.
