  • Central Grove Provincial Park: Located about half-way down Long Island in Digby County, this is a popular rest spot for those travelling to Brier Island.
  • Walk the the 0.8 km (0.5 mi) trail to great views of the Bay of Fundy. Don’t forget your camera for shots of the rocky shoreline and wildlife you may see along the way.
  • Long Island: Digby Neck, Long Island and Brier Island are a continuation of the North Mountain Range of mainland Nova Scotia.
  • Mi'kmaw legend has it that Glooscap created Long Island in a dispute with his archrival the Beaver. He hurled two huge boulders at the Beaver, but both missed.
  • One created Petit Passage, separating Long Island from the mainland and the other, Grand Passage between Long and Brier Islands.
  • The names Île Longue, Petit Passage and Grand Passage were given by Samuel de Champlain in 1604.
  • In 1783 Long Island was granted to Capt. Neil MacNeill, a NY Loyalist and commandant of a company of pro British troops.
