- The name is descriptive and was used by the time the second land grant was made here in 1854. John Brooks received the first grant in 1790.
- When the next grant was made in 1854 to Archibald McInnis, Jr., the name was in use. The branch line of the Sydney and Louisbourg Railway between Grand Lake and Victoria Mines was first used in 1908.
