- This is where the Mi'kmaq of the surrounding districts gather each year for the Feast of St. Anne.
- The French missionary Father Maillard first called the place Ile Ste Famille, 'the island of the Holy Father.' The island was given to the Mi'kmaq in 1792 by Lt.-Gov. McCormick.
