Description From Owner:
- The Mi'kmaq called the river from which the community took its name Apcheekumookwaakade.
- That meant 'Duckland,' for the plenitude of duck. Early settlers called it New Settlement of St. Marys and the river, Great River, since it was the largest of the three, East, West and Middle River, which flow into Pictou Harbour.
