Nova Scotia Tourism Region : South Shore
Description From Owner:
- The Aboriginal name was Esiktaweak, 'oozing from dead water.' On the Lopo Homen map of 1554 the river emptying into this bay was shown as Ribera des Jardines, 'river of gardens.'
- On a 1686 map it had become River Des Jardines. By 1781 there was one settler here and the name was Port Buller. Over time the name became anglicized to Jordan, having nothing to do with that place in the bible.
- There is also a Jordan, Jordan Falls, Jordan Ferry and East Jordan.
