Nova Scotia Tourism Region : South Shore
Description From Owner:
- The name dates back at least to 1781 and derives from the duck or deer-hunting expeditions of early settlers. Loyalist Isaac Wilkins received two lots here in 1784 and 1785.
- Roseway: The Aboriginal people called the place Weseamk, 'flowing down over sand.' The present name evolved from Port Razoir, 'Port Razor,' because the shape of the harbour was like that of a razor.
- There was a small French settlement here before 1699 and later fishermen from Barrington moved in. A land grant was made in 1785 to Eleazar Doane and 15 others.
