Description From Owner:
  • In 1783 a military post was established here and the place was called Fort Point. It was later named Carleton in honour of Sir Guy Carleton.
  • Some French families had attempted a settlement here in the mid-1600s but they abandoned the place in 1708 after privateers from Boston burned their homes. In 1784 land grants were made here to John King and Isaac Wilkins.
  • With permission from 'Nova Scotia Place Names' David E. Scott 2015
