A suburb on the E side of Halifax Harbour. Early names were Eastern Battery and Fort Clarence. Imperoyal is a contraction of Imperial Oil Co. which has a refinery here.
Settlement began about 1754. Eastern Battery began as an earthworks in 1751 and after expansion was named Fort Clarence to honour Prince William Henry, Duke of Clarence.
