Nova Scotia Tourism Region : South Shore
Description From Owner:
- The French called the place Port aux Ours, 'Port of Bears.' The English translation Port of Bears gradually changed to Port Herbert when it was thought De Monts had named it for his apothecary, Louis Hebert.
- At one time the place was also called Port Mansfield. First settlement began in the 1760s.
