- Named for Charles Lawrence (1709-60), Governor from 1754-60, who set up the township and granted it to 20 proprietors in 1754.
- The place is named for Charles Lawrence (1709-60), Governor from 1754-60, whose term coincided with the expulsion of the Acadians (1755), establishment of representative government (1758) and the coming of New England Planters in the 1760s.
- That year 200 soldiers and rangers guarded the settlers from Indian attacks while they were hacking a road 17.5 km from Dartmouth and a palisade and blockhouse were built.
- Lawrencetown Beach is in a provincial park noted for its breakers and used by surfers year-round, protected since 1973 by the Nova Scotia Life Saving Service.
