Description From Owner:
  • There are 10 locations in the area that incorporate Judique in their name. The name is French and its origin comes from jou-jou-dique, 'playing channel.'
  • This was because heavy northerly storms would sometimes close up the channel with sand and later open a channel somewhere else.
  • In the census of 1752, Sieur de la Rogue calls the place Judac. The first settler was Michael McDonald, a poet and sea captain from South Uist, Scotland, who moved from PEI in 1776, making this the oldest Scottish community on Cape Breton Island.
