256 PORT CLYDE |
Nova Scotia Tourism Region : South Shore
Description From Owner:
- The communities of Roseway and Roseway Beach are near the W entrance to Shelburne Harbour.
- Roseway River enters the Atlantic Ocean at nearby Shelburne. During the French colonial period hydrographer royal Jean-Baptiste Louis Franquelin was the first to use Port Rasoir as the name for the area.
- The name may have been inspired by the indigenous razor clam, a narrow, elongated mollusk with a sharp-edged shell.
- The English interpreted the name as Rasway and then Rosaway and eventually Roseway. A lighthouse was erected at Cape Roseway in 1788.
