Nova Scotia Tourism Region : Bay of Fundy & Annapolis Valley
Description From Owner:
- The place takes its name from the river which flows into the Minas Basin here. During the French colonial period this area was known as Rivière Gascogne, named for Gascony, a province in SW France.
- The first settlers here after 1755 were Loyalist soldiers who had served with the New Jersey volunteers in the American Revolution. Capt. Samuel Wilson and Lt. Elizear Taylor were visited by Gov. John Parr in 1785.
- He was so impressed by the progress made by the men and the diligence of the settlers he named the place Diligent River.
