Nova Scotia Tourism Region : Cape Breton Island
Description From Owner:
- The community took its name from the lake which had been so named because most of the settlers were from Scotland. William Fyff settled here in 1822 to build a mill on George River.
- In 1824 William Shaughnessy, an Irishman, claimed the same land and began building a fulling mill. Fyff moved to Boularderie Island, leaving his improvements to Shaughnessy.
