Description From Owner:
- Barrachois or Barachois is a common place name in Atlantic Canada... more than 30 times in Nova Scotia alone. The word is of Basque origin from 'barratxo' or 'barrachoa' for sandbar.
- The French changed it to 'barachoix' or 'barachois' and extended the meaning to a shallow body of water sheltered from the sea by a sand spit or strip of land. Donald and Andrew Laing were living here by 1840 when they received land grants.
