  • This place, and nearby Victoria Mines, was named to honour Queen Victoria. When Irish people settled on this shore in the late 1700s, they named the entire point from Sydney Harbour to Lingan, Low Point.
  • Coal mining has taken place intermittently since 1867.

  • Fort Petrie Military Museum

    at 3479 New Waterford Highway, New Victoria, is a Second World War fortification.

    It's a two-storey underground bunker with ammunition storage rooms and machine shops and there's a three-level tower with great views of Sydney Harbour.

    There are artifacts from both World Wars, restored gun emplacements and artillery stores.
