Description From Owner:
- Groves: Named for a grove of trees adjacent to the railway siding. Land grants were made here in 1905 and in 1885 a schoolhouse was built at nearby Brushy Hill.
- Sackville: Named for Fort Sackville, a military fortification begun at the head of the basin by Capt. John Goreham in 1749 for the protection of Halifax.
- The Aboriginal name was Aloosoolawakade, place of measles,' because an epidemic of measles killed off a large number of people here.
