- Lantz: The first land grant was in 1785. In 1898 Harvey and Croft Lantz started a brick and tile plant and the community that grew up around it was named for them.
- The Lantz operation was bought by James B. Miller in 1905 to become Elmsdale Brick and Tile Co., later absorbed as part of Nova Scotia Clay Works and in 1913 purchased by L. E. Shaw.
