  • First known as Nine Mile River, Lower Bedford, The Dump and Doyle's Dump.
  • The name is descriptive because there were mills here at various times, including Moir's wooden box factory, grain elevator and gristmill.
  • John Henry Mixner had been carrying out a tannery business here for some years before he received his land grant in 1813.
