Nova Scotia Tourism Region : Halifax Metro
Description From Owner:
- First called Dutch Village after German settlers moved here in 1750. In 1860 Sir Charles Tupper named his estate on North West Arm, Halifax City, Armdale.
- In 1847 Andrew Downs started the first zoological gardens in North America. From 1871 to 1931 the Fairview and Dutch Village area appeared on the federal census as North-West Arm,
- but in 1941 the two areas were separated and Armdale District came into use instead of Dutch Village.
