Description From Owner:
- Burnside is the largest industrial Park in Atlantic Canada and is located in the N end of Dartmouth. The park is named for Scottish settler Duncan Wadell's tiny 19th century estate.
- It was located beside a stream ('burn' in Scottish). In 1927 an ammunition storage magazine for the three armed services was built here. It was expanded in 1939 and in 1945 some of the magazine was destroyed in an explosion.
- The explosion was caused by fire breaking out in ammunition unloaded from naval ships which were being deammunitioned on cessation of hostilities with Germany.
- The federal government paid $3,863,959 to 7,957 claimants for property damage. Burnside is now part of the City of Dartmouth.
