Made millions with personal care products

The hugely successful Fuller Brush Co. started with an invention by Alfred C. Fuller (1885-1973), born and raised in Welsford.

In 1903, when Fuller was 18, he moved to Somerville, MA. With savings of $375 and ideas for brushes that previous employers had rejected, he started his company in the basement of his sister's house.

Four months later he moved to Hartford, CT, calling his enterprise Capitol Brush Company.

He expanded sales into other states and then into Canada. In 1913 he renamed his company Fuller Brush Company and in 1919 it recorded its first $1 million in sales.

Today the company, headquartered in Great Bend, KS, produces more than 2,000 different products.
